Feb 3, 2021 – General Meeting 9:30 AM; Guest Speaker 10:30AM: Dr. Ross Salvosa on Muscle Memory and Photographic Memory:  A Workshop on effective strategies and techniques to memorizing via Zoom. 
 
Layered Learning:
  1. Aural comprehension before reading
  2. Rhythm as the backbone
  3. Chords and scales as the framework for pattern recognition
  4. Organizing rhythmic and melodic patterns into recognizable syntax (chunking)
  5. Visualizing before taking action by creating a mental video-graphic simulation
  6. Testing and recalibrating

Mindful Muscle Memory

  1. Creating variations to strengthen memory aka creative practicing
  2. Performance mode vs practice mode (saving and spending)
  3. The mind as a highway system
  4. Rhythmic pattern exercises as means to create roads
  5. More roads less traffic jam aka never enough roads
  6. Less mental traffic jam equals ease
  7. More roads equal more capacity for details and nuances
  8. Securing memory through choreography

BIO: Ross Salvosa is an internationally distinguished pianist-pedagogue and is one of the sought-after piano teachers in the Pacific Northwest. He is a seasoned adjudicator and has served in the juries of national and international piano competitions including the Seattle International Piano Festival and Competition and the National Music Competition for Young Artists. He is renowned for developing prodigious talents from early formative ages to young professional artists. He frequently gives lectures and masterclasses in Canada, USA, Chile, Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica and the Philippines. His students are prize winners in national and international competitions and frequently perform as soloists with orchestras.

He is the director of the Concordia Arts Group in Seattle-WA and also an artist-faculty at the Chopin Academy of Music in Issaquah-Washington. He is also the outreach coordinator for the Seattle International Piano Festival and Competition and has previously served as the artistic director of the Music Without Borders Society. 

He received his Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the University of British Columbia and was the recipient of the Mildred Johnson scholarship award.
